Antipode: (noun) the direct opposite of something
When we were kids, it was common knowledge that you'd reach China if you dug a hole deep enough through the center of the earth. Turns out you'd have to make it curve quite a bit if you wanted to reach the center of the earth and China, starting from pretty much anywhere in the world.
The below map shows all the antipodes of the world. Basically, the map shows you where you'd end up if you started digging a hole now. If you live in a green area, you'll hit land, otherwise you'll hit water. As you can see, it's actually quite rare to hit land from your digging mission, and I have had the special privilege to live in the antipodes Spain and New Zealand. I just flew rather than digging a hole- I'll save a journey to the center of the earth for another adventure! In the meantime, enjoy exploring this blog of my adventures in New Zealand.
